Christina Lehew, Common Ground Relief’s Co-Director of Administration, previously worked alongside the organization for 2 ½ years with close partner and neighbor, CSED of the Lower 9th Ward. There she established and facilitated several programs with a focus on collaborative partnerships. One of these includes the Public Glass Recycling Bins found throughout the area, which offers a barrier-free recycling option for residents & shows gratitude for the participation of residents through the distribution of recycled glass sandbags during hurricane season. Through doing this work she is able to engage with her love for Southeast Louisiana, contemplate her family’s history and her own future here.
She joined CSED during her Americorps term with SBP, where she built several ADA-certified housing units in the neighborhood. She became familiar with Bayou Bienvenue as a gateway to the Central Wetlands Unit while repairing the viewing platform located on Florida Ave.
Christina completed her Bachelor’s in Sociology and MBA degrees at Loyola University between 2016-2021. During this time she became more involved in community garden spaces, youth tutoring and mentorship programs, and food security programs in the area. It is a joy for her to work alongside members of our communities here in SELA, to care for one another, and to use collaboration and creativity to address the most overwhelming and complex challenges we face here in the Gulf South.
