Common Ground Thanks Marina Drummer

House of Excellence | Events | Friends and allies

Marina Drummer, dedicated advocate of Common Ground Relief and the Angola 3, passed a pleasant visit with friend and ally Robert King (of the Angola 3) at New Orleans' House of Excellence before they proceeded on to Baton Rouge.

Recently, Common Ground Relief was excited to welcome a very special friend as she visited Common Ground sites with co-founder Malik Rahim.

Common Ground is different from many organizations in that it was not begun in an office building, with a budget laid out and a board in place. Common Ground began with friends reaching out to each other in a time of deep need, in the spirit of mutual aid. Marina was just such a friend who answered the call for help even before Katrina's waters had left the city, and right beside Common Ground is where she has stayed, giving assistance and guidance in countless forms.

Marina Drummer, director of the Community Futures Collective, has been fiscal agent and adviser for Common Ground Relief, in addition to assisting with bookkeeping, helping to create proposals for the foundation, serving on the Board, and helping to guide and grow the organization in many, many ways.

Marina's visit comes as she and the Community Futures Collective step back in their role as Common Ground Relief's fiscal agent, as Common Ground now operates under independent 501c3 non-profit status. Marina, who will continue to serve on the Board, remains very much involved with the organization, a dear friend to Malik, and is held in our hearts with deep g>>>> ratitude for all of her tireless work throughout the past years to help Common Ground and New Orleans, as well as for her work in the National Coalition to Free the Angola Three, The Advocates for Indigenous California Language Survival, The LEF Foundation, and with the Seventh Native American Generation. Her work is deeply felt and appreciated. Thank you, Marina!

Thank you, Marina!
