Merlin Owens and his daughter, Skylar Carr. His son, Davante is at his feet. "I didn't have nothing for my kids for Christmas. I wanted to have something. I wanted to have toys. I didn't have nothing." Owens and his wife, Natasha Carr have had particular difficulty finding suitable and affordable housing. Carr is paralyzed from the waist down, and needed a ground floor, wheelchair accessible apartment. They are supporting 3 children on a fixed income. Owens is epileptic and as a result has not been able to maintain steady work. "I'm tired of living from hotel to hotel," says Owens, referring to his experience after evacuating due to Katrina.
