Common Ground Wetlands Little Lake Planting - April 5th
Common Ground Wetlands Little Lake Planting - April 5th
Common Ground went out to Little Lake/ Round Lake and did a planting April 5th. They planted 2500 smooth cordgrass plants to stop the erosion of the shoreline and to create fish habitat. Motivated and determined wetlands volunteers discovered that the incredibly thick, sticky mud made rubber boots useless and eventually just planted in bare feet. (note the bare feet in the pics)

Common Ground volunteers at the end of a tiring, extremely dirty but rewarding planting. Note the pants-wet from the thigh down from working in the water. Also check out the bare feet- rubber boots & waders hinder more than help in the muddy, squelchy

The evenly spaced apart smooth cordgrass is planted to stop the wearing away of the ground. Without plants to help keep the soil from simply falling away into the water, the shoreline erodes further and further, creating more and more environmental damage
